Basics of Laptops
Laptops have come a long way since their inception. The modern ones have maximum computing power bundled into minimal spaces. They have evolved into different types like wireless laptops, laptops that can be easily configured by mixing and matching different components, those that can be fabricated for specific purposes etc.
Features
Just like desktops, the three basic and prime features of any Laptop PC are their processor speeds and capacity of RAM and hard drives. While the nominal speed varies from 1.4 to 3.0GHz, the hard drive capacity range is 20GB to 120 GB and that of RAM 256MB to 2GB. This is not the range limits; there are higher specifications available in he market. Choosing speed and capacity depends upon the tasks that the laptop will be put through. The size of the laptop depends greatly on the screen size. 12, 15 and 17″ screens are popular and predictably larger graphics cards provide proportionate support for games and presentations. While CD-ROM is a standard inclusion, there are other choices like DVD-ROMs, combination ROMs with re-writable or readable options. There are 1 to 4 USB ports available in different models. Battery life is about 2 to 5 hours and charging takes about 75 minutes. The touchpad may not be very comfortable for some users and a cordless mouse is the best alternative. Not every laptop comes with a carrying case, but it is always best to use for easy transportation.
Brands
Apple, Sony, HP, Dell, Toshiba laptops are among the top best buys. While the beginner or budget types are well suited for students or home use, the advanced or ultra portable ranges are of very less weight and cost more.
