Usage of Specific Tags in Text

Oftenly masters, who try to optimize a page are getting too enthusiastic with the process and make mistakes, being unaware of that they are doing wrong things.

A good example is a site that one of my partners have asked me to take a look at. Ordinary site about traveller’s bags and suitcases. I felt satisfied with code, links, navigation, scripts, but the decoration of text made me surprised and jolly.

Each product page had a title with a name of model, h1 tag with the same information, couple of links - to testimonials, reviews, cart and support, description of a model (in bold text) and “other models of category” with a list of models in bold text again.

Actually there was no information presented with normal text - and that is the mistake.

Never make your site looking unnatuarally. If you want to make your text easy readable for weak-eyed, make it larger or use thick fonts, but don’t use bold. Such tags as bold, italic and underlined server to emphasize the importance of word, phrase or fragment of text that plays important role on the background of other message that page brings to a reader. Such stressed words are like anchors that surfer spots looking through a page quickly.

Making all text bold you harm all optimization efforts because search engine considers bold text to be important and you drop relevancy, when unncesessary words are getting into the same tags with your keywords.

Never forget about naturality and watch ready pages from surfer’s and robot’s point of view. If your professional eye prevent you from seeing a page, like surfer or robot can see it, ask your friend to do it for you - a friend who’s not acquainted with optimization and web technologies and looks at a website from consumer’s point of view.
